The MAGnet Discovery System: How SVER Recommends Streams
The single biggest problem in live streaming is discovery. On most platforms, discovery means sorting streams by viewer count. The more viewers you have, the higher you appear, the more new viewers you get. It is a winner-take-all dynamic that locks out small creators and rewards established names regardless of quality.
SVER's MAGnet discovery system is built to break this cycle.
The MAGnet Routing Engine
MAGnet is not a simple sorting algorithm. It is a multi-phase scoring engine that evaluates every live stream across 12 dimensions before generating recommendations. Here is how it works.
Phase 1-3: Content Matching
The first phases analyze what a stream is about and who might want to watch it. Category, tags, title keywords, and historical viewer overlap are all factored in. If you regularly watch FPS streams, MAGnet knows to surface FPS creators β but it also considers adjacent interests based on viewing patterns across the platform.
Phase 4-6: Community Quality
These phases evaluate the health of a stream's community. Chat engagement rate, message quality (not just volume), viewer retention, and return viewer percentage all contribute to a community quality score. A stream with 20 highly engaged viewers scores higher than a stream with 200 passive viewers.
This is where MAGnet differs most dramatically from viewer-count sorting. Community quality is measurable, and it is not correlated with audience size. A brand-new streamer with a tight community can score as well as an established name with a larger but less engaged audience.
Phase 7-9: Consistency and Reliability
The consistency multiplier rewards creators who stream regularly β up to 1.3x scoring boost for maintained streaks. Streak milestones at 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, and 90 days provide additional scoring bumps.
Crucially, this system does not punish absence. Missing a day does not tank your score β it gradually returns to baseline. The goal is to reward consistency, not create anxiety around streaming schedules.
Phase 10-11: Faction Alignment
Faction alignment scoring connects viewers with creators who share their faction identity. The SAME_FACTION bonus ranges from 25-50 points based on the faction's current Unity stat β factions with higher community cohesion produce stronger same-faction recommendations.
Territory control also affects discovery. Streamers in categories linked to territories controlled by the viewer's faction receive a bonus weighted by the territory's strategic value. A rival faction bonus exists too β the system deliberately surfaces content from rival factions to keep the competitive dynamic alive.
Phase 12: Spotlight Curation
The final phase is human curation. The SVER team manually features streams through the Spotlight system. Featured creators receive a 75-point MAGnet scoring bonus and appear in prominent discovery positions.
Spotlight curation is intentionally used to surface creators who the algorithm might undervalue β new streamers, creators in niche categories, or communities that are excellent but have not yet built enough engagement data for the automated phases to recognize.
How Small Streamers Get Discovered
The entire design of MAGnet is oriented around one goal: giving small streamers a real path to discovery. Here is how that plays out in practice:
Community quality over viewer count. A streamer with 8 viewers where everyone is chatting, returning regularly, and engaging with each other scores higher on community quality than a streamer with 80 silent viewers. MAGnet sees this and recommends accordingly.
Faction affiliation as discovery channel. When you join a faction, you are immediately connected to a community of creators and viewers who share your identity. Faction members surface each other naturally β it is built-in organic discovery that does not depend on algorithm luck.
Consistency rewards compound over time. A new streamer who streams 4 days a week for a month builds a meaningful consistency multiplier. Combined with faction alignment and community quality scoring, this creates a discovery snowball that does not require explosive growth to start rolling.
Spotlight curation catches what the algorithm misses. The SVER team actively looks for creators who deserve more visibility. This is not an advertising slot β it is editorial curation driven by genuine quality assessment.
What MAGnet Does Not Do
MAGnet does not suppress creators who take breaks. The consistency multiplier fades, but it does not go negative. Your existing community still finds you through follows and faction affiliation.
MAGnet does not sell recommendation slots. There is no paid promotion within the discovery system. Visibility is earned through community quality, consistency, and faction participation.
MAGnet does not use behavioral profiling. The system knows what you watch on SVER, but it does not build a psychological profile or sell your viewing patterns to advertisers. Recommendations are based on content matching and community signals, not surveillance capitalism.
The Result
MAGnet creates a discovery ecosystem where growth is achievable for creators at every level. The path is clear: build a genuine community, stream consistently, participate in your faction, and the system will find your audience for you.
It is not magic. It is a system designed around the right incentives β where quality community building is literally the most effective growth strategy.
